Album: Dream Street
Artist: Janet Jackson
Release: 23 October 1984
Format: Album
Version: Standard Edition
Label: A&M
Archive: .MP3 / 320kpbs / 86MB

"Dream Street" is the second album by American musician Janet Jackson, released on October 23, 1984, by A&M Records. More pop than her debut album's "bubblegum soul" feel, the album wasn't the runaway success that Janet's father Joseph thought it would be, peaking at number one hundred forty-seven on the Billboard 200 in 1984. The album did have one modest hit for Jackson, the top ten R&B single, "Don't Stand Another Chance", produced by brother Marlon. Also, the video for the song "Dream Street", her first music video, was shot during the shooting of the TV show Fame. "Dream Street" sold 21,320 copies between 1991 and April 2007 according to Nielsen Soundscan, while its sales through the BMG Music Club stand at 44,000 as of 2003. But the majority of the sales occurred before Soundscan began tracking sales in the US in 1991. The album peaked at 147 in the United States and failed to chart internationally. Four single were released, "Don't Stand ANother Chance", "Two The Power Of love", "Fast Girls" and "Dream Street".

Like a Virgin is the second studio album by American singer and songwriter Madonna, released on November 12, 1984, by Sire Records. It was reissued worldwide outside of the US in 1985, with the inclusion of "Into the Groove". In 2001, Warner Bros. Records released a remastered version with two bonus remix tracks. After the release of her self-titled debut album, Madonna wanted to solidify her future in the music business, by building on the success of the first album. She decided to become one of the record producers, but Warner Bros. was not ready to give her the artistic freedom that she wanted. Nile Rodgers was chosen as the primary producer of the album, due to his work with David Bowie.
Five singles were released from the album, including Madonna's first US number-one "Like a Virgin" and her first UK number-one "Into the Groove". To promote the album, she embarked on The Virgin Tour, which had shows in cities of North America only. Like a Virgin has attained significance as a cultural artifact of the 1980s. Madonna proved that she was not a one-hit wonder and was able to provide herself with a permanent footing in the music world. Her songs became a lightning rod for both criticism by conservatives and imitation by the younger female population, especially "Material Girl" and "Like a Virgin".
